-¿Podrías contarnos cómo te introduciste en el mundo de la música electrónica?
Todo vino paso a paso…Tuve mi primer sampler a los doce años..Justo antes de esto,un amigo tenía unos platos Technics,y era el momento del Campeonato DMC de Djs…Luego compré el sampler y comencé a samplear los típicos temas de Parliament and Funkadelic… así empezó todo!
-Sabemos que fueron tus estudios de Arquitectura lo que te llevó a Berlín en 1996…¿Los terminaste o los dejaste para dedicarte a la música?
Fue en 1994…Hice el pre-diploma en Arquitectura y luego me cambié a la Universidad de las Artes en Berlín para empezar Communication Design y lo terminé.Pero no he estado trabajando mucho en diseño,ha sido más la música,pero aún asi veo algo en común en ambas cosas..el mismo tipo de pensamiento.
-¿Cómo te uniste a BPitch Control?
Yo diría que por accidente…Yo era el residente de un club llamado Casino,en el que Ellen Allien era residente de la pista grande..Una noche estuvimos pinchando durante ocho horas,bebiendo..lo pasamos muy bien..y puse una demo en la maleta de discos de Ellen..y asi es como saqué el disco!
-Has hecho algunos proyectos con Silversurfer,Captain Comatose…¿Te gusta trabajar en compañía o prefieres producir solo?
Es realmente difícil trabajar en compañía!Con Silversurfer tengo ese tipo de comunicación sin hablar..y funciona…Pero lo he intentado con otra gente y los discos nunca salieron,así que es realmente difícil…Así que en realidad prefiero producir solo.Pero me gusta intentarlo,y ahora mismo estoy haciendo cosas con otros artistas y espero volver a hacer algo con Silversurfer.
-Trabajas para Ellen Allien…¿Es muy selectiva con la música?¿Influye en tus producciones?
Es muy dura,pero es lo que me gusta de ella,porque de otra forma los discos serían muy aburridos.Ella intenta sacar lo mejor que hay en mí,lo cual me parece bueno.No influye directamente en mis producciones..no me dice “haz esto o aquello”,pero sí me dice “no,esto no es bueno,necesitas hacer algo más,inventar algo nuevo”.
-¿Qué piensas de la actual escena de club en Europa?
Personalmente creo que esta mejorando cada vez más…en este momento es muy buena.Mucha gente está experimentando con cosas raras y está funcionando.Y las fiestas cada vez son más grandes,así que tiene que haber algo realmente bueno en ello.
-¿Conoces la escena electrónica española? ¿Qué artistas son los que más te gustan?
Sí,mucho.España es el lugar donde más veces he pinchado este año,mucho más que en otros sitios. Me encanta el sello Factor City,Undo…y especialmente me gusta Daryl. También me gusta Alex Under,es estupendo…Pero me gustan muchos artistas,hay muchos artistas buenos.
-Tu última referencia es Boggie Bites y a muchos de tus fans les encantó Run With Me. ¿Cuándo tendremos tu próximo trabajo como productor? ¿Estás trabajando el algún proyecto del que nos puedas hablar?
Ahora mismo estoy trabajando en un nuevo album. Tengo una demo para mi segundo album y la semana que viene la entrego a Bpitch Control. Así que el año que viene saldra un nuevo album,no sé si a principios o finales de año. Y en Noviembre sale un nuevo single de Bpitch llamado “Trust Me”.
-¿Qué trabajos de otros aritstas te han impresionado últimamente?
En este momento creo que hay mucha gente haciendo cosas fantásticas. Acabo de estar tres semanas sin pichar,por lo que no he ido a las tiendas de discos. Después de tres semanas he ido otra vez..y estoy gastando todo mi dinero en discos! He comprado unos veinte o treinta discos esta semana,asi que hay cosas muy buenas en este momento. En mi página web hay un blog con los mejores discos del momento.
-Háblanos del lugar más raro donde hayas pinchado y del club que más te ha gustado.
Para empezar,hay muchos clubes fantásticos. Uno de los mejores en los que he estado es The Edge en Sao Paulo,Brasil. Fue una experiencia increíble,como pinchar en una exhibición de arte. La mejor fiesta en la que he estado en España fue Goa en Madrid,fue muy intenso.
-¿Cuál es tu opinión sobre los netlabels?
La verdad es que no se mucho. Conozco el de Jay Haze, pero tengo que descubrir más.
-¿Qué consejo darías a alguien que se quiere promocionar en este mundo?
Básicamente tienes que hacer algo que sea tuyo,y si sigues haciéndolo y realmente crees en ello,antes o después alguien se dará cuenta.

-Could you tell us how did you start messing around with electronic music?
It all came step by step…I got my first sampler when I was around twelve… Just before this a friend of mine had a few Technics,turntables,and it was just the time when the DMC Mixing Championship was ready..Then I got the sampler and I was chopping around the typical samplers like everyone did:Parliament and Funkadelic…and that was all!
-We know it was your architectural studies what moved you to Berlin in 1996…Did you finish them or did you leave them in order to dedicate to music?
It was in 1994…I did the pre-diploma with Architecture and then I changed to the University of Arts in Berlin,and I started Communication Design and finished that…But I haven´t been working so much on design,it´s been more music but still I see something really common in these things…it´s still the same kind of thinking.
-How did you get together with Bpitch control?
By accident,I would say…I was the resident of a club called Casino,and they had a big floor where Ellen Allien was the resident …One night we ended up playing for eight hours,drinking..we had a good time..and I put a demo on Ellen´s record bag…and that´s how the record came!
-You made some projects with Silversurfer,CaptainComatose…Do you like working in a company or do you prefer to produce music alone?
It´s really hard to work in a company! With Silversurfer I have this kind of communication without talking,and it works…But I´ve tried with a lot of other people and the records never came out so it´s really difficult…So I prefer to produce alone,actually.But I like to try it,and actually I´m doing some things with other artists and hope to do something again with Silversurfer.
-You work for Ellen Allien…Is she very selective with the music?Does she influence your productions?
She´s really tough but that´s the thing I like about her,because otherwise the records would be boring…She really tries to push the best out of you,which is good.She doesn´t influence directly my productions..she doesn´t say “do this or do that”,but she is like pushing me,saying “no,that´s not good,you need to do something else,to keep inventing something new”.She has to be harsh.
-What do you think of the current clubbing scene in Europe?
For me it´s getting better and better…it´s getting really good at the moment.A lot of people are experimenting with some really weird things and actually it´s working.And the parties are getting bigger so there must be something really good about it.
-Do you know about the electronic scene in Spain? Which artists do you like most?
A lot,yes.This year I´ve played most of my gigs in Spain,much more than anywhere else. I really like the Factor City label,Undo…and I especially like Daryl. I also like Alex Under,he´s great…but I like a lot of artists,there are many good artists.
-The last reference we have from you is Boogie Bites and many of your fans loved Run With Me…When will we have your next work as producer?Are you now working on any project you can tell us about?
I´m just working on a new album at the moment. I have a demo for my second album and I´m giving it to Bpitch Control next week. So next year an album is definitely coming out,I don´t know if beginning or end. And in November there´s a new single coming out called “Trust Me” on Bpitch.
-What works by other artists are you listening to now that you´re really impressed with?
So many…there are so many people at the moment…I just had three weeks off of djing this month and I didn´t go to record shops…And after three weeks I went again and I´m wasting all my money on records…I bought like twenty or thirty records this week,so there´s so much good stuff at the moment. On my website I have a blog of the best records of the moment.
-Tell us about the weirdest place you´ve played and the club you like most.
First of all there are so many great clubs. One of the best clubs I´ve been is The Edge, in Sao Paulo,Brasil.It was an amazing experience.It was like playing in an art exhibition. The best party I´ve been in Spain was Goa in Madrid,it was really intense.
-What´s your opinion about netlabels?Do you search for music there as well?
I don´t know much,to be honest. I know the one Jay Haze is doing,so i need to check more.
-If you were to give advice to someone in order to be promoted..what would you recommend?
Basically,you have to do something which is “you” and if you keep doing it and if you really believe in it,someone takes notice sooner or later.
